Damon Hitchcock Art Exhibit Opening ReceptionMeet the artist at our first art exhibit in the new Farmland Center from 1-4pm
Historic Farmland USA, an Indiana Main Street organization in Randolph County, will present an exhibit of art work by Farmland native Damon Hitchcock at The Farmland Center, 100 N. Main St. in downtown Farmland beginning on June 30th, 2012 and continuing through August 11, 2012. The artwork depicts images of Farmland and rural Randolph County in watercolor and mixed media. There will be an opening reception on Satruday, June 30 from 1:00-4:00pm with an opportunity to meet the artist. Regular hours for the exhibit will be Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am-3pm.
Damon Hitchcock is a native of Farmland, Indiana, born in 1946 in the Winchester Hospital. The images of Farmland are a result of Damon’s interest in nostalgic and rural scenes that reveal an American identity. Damon’s father, John Hitchcock, was a graduate of Ball State and his mother, Berdena, was an employee of Dr. Nixon’s office in Farmland. He moved with his parents and sister to San Diego when he was nine. Damon would eventually earn his Fine Arts M.A. at San Diego State University. Teaching principally Art History, he teaches at Southwestern and Miramar Community Colleges and San Diego State University’s School of Extended Studies in the Osher Life Long Learning Program. He has been an instructor in the San Diego Museum of Art’s Education Program. Between classroom obligations and independent lecturing opportunities, Damon enjoys traveling with his wife, Mary Carin, who is a sculptor and educator. Damon and Mary are currently restoring a pre-Civil War Federal-style brick farmhouse on the edge of Centerville, Indiana, south of U.S. 40.
